"Music is the medicine of the mind."
Legacy Music Inc. is a nonprofit 501c3 organization providing musical services to support children, teens, and their families. We offer vocal and guitar instruction including, "guitars for keeps," to children & teens, ages 8-18, varying in backgrounds and mental health conditions. This includes depression, anxiety, and trauma; physical, emotional, and sexual abuse; psychological disorders, substance, and alcohol abuse. Some of our students are foster youth, and others have been rescued from sex trafficking.
We offer our services to several organizations in El Dorado and Placer Counties in Northern California, including, Summitview Child & Family Services. Our instruction is provided either as a stand-alone guitar or voice lesson or integrated with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
Denise Leonard, Co-Founder & Executive Director of Legacy Music Inc., began her career with at-risk-youth at Summitview Child & Family Services, Inc. in Placerville, California. In her work, she recognized the therapeutic healing of music while engaging youth in guitar lessons, songwriting, and group-sing a-longs. Moved by the positive impact of music with these children, Denise was inspired to create Legacy Music integrating her musical and educational experience.
